Having fun behind the scenes as a family walks by our location.  Britnee was fully covered, but we all wanted to keep it on the DL. :)
This was an amazingly fun shoot.  :)  I’ll be posting more images from the shoot once they have been published!

Macro photography

I picked up a new toy on Friday. A 10x zoom for my 85mm. I was looking for an inexpensive alternative to the 100mm Macro lens I REALLY want. This definitely wasn’t it, but it did prove to be a fun way to spend the afternoon around our house on Sunday.

Above is a mini lightbulb from a string decorating our back yard.

To see more of the set and the things that intrigued me around our yard, check out the Flickr set.

I was reading about David duChemin, who recent fell and was badly injured while prepping to create a photo.

I was curious about his work so visited his blog. The first post (as in the most recent one posted) really affected me.

I’m struggling with making my dreams come true, and creating the life I really want and living my life to it’s full potential. I struggle periodically with depression and frustration, though, for the most part, I’ve never been happier.

He wrote the following:

All we have is now. I’ve said it before: none of us lives forever. The time to make a change is now. You may not be able to pack the house and go on an adventure right now, but you can put yourself on a path to doing it. Don’t wait until you’re 65 and retired. You might not be around or in good health. The time is now. Don’t be the one breathing his last breath wishing he’d gotten around to the things that were most important. Live with all the passion and energy you’ve got now. Now is all you have. Each moment matters.
Risk is inevitable. We all risk, day in and day out. You fall in love at first sight with someone amazing and you’ve two choices, both involving risk. You can act on it and risk rejection, or you can sit on it, do nothing, and risk losing what might be the best thing you might ever experience. Sure, rejection’s painful (but not certain), but it’s nothing compared to the life-long regret of letting her slip away (absolutely certain). You have a dream and the only way to get at it is to make some changes, live sparsely, and pull your kids out of school for a year. You can do it, and risk failure (not as likely as it seems) or play it safe and let the dreams remain un-lived (absolutely certain).Life is about risk. The best stories hinge on it. But even those risks aren’t as big as they seem. It’s funny how we often prefer to listen to fears and avoid risks that are only potentially painful, and in so doing sacrifice our dreams – a loss that is most certainly painful.
This relates so much to the stuff I’m going through now - both with my career and with life as well as even my personal belief structures.

Every day I find some kind of obstacle in my path, whether it’s my own procrastination, fear or just the business of everyday life.

My goal has been and continues to be learning and moving on from past experiences. Each one can teach me, whether it was a “mistake” or a fulfilled opportunity.

I’m excited by the life I’m living, and positive that I will be able to create my own history.

If you’d like to check out David duChemin’s blog go to http://www.pixelatedimage.com/blog/

And the story of his fall:
http://bit.ly/foVrZO

I’m sure with his outlook and positive energy, he will recover fully.

That’s all for now… Thanks for reading.

Another image from my recent shoot with Tim Skold.  This is one of the tears from the Auxiliary April/May 2011 www.auxiliarymagazine.com/news/2011/04/aprilmay-2011-issue-out-now exclusive.  He was so much fun to work with, we did several different looks through out the shoot, and he is very photogenic!
I have another shoot coming up for Auxiliary Magazine that I am super excited about!  I’ll tell you more once it all comes to fruition!
In the mean time, help me entertain you - What do you want to hear more about?  The stuff that inspires me, more of the history critiques of where I’ve come from? Just more images?  How I create the photos?
Feedback is ever so helpful!
For now…..

Feeling kind of inspired today.  Looking through all the beautiful posts on tumblr and talking to various connections about upcoming collaborations.
I’m very excited about the different ideas some are things I’ve wanted to do forever, big editorial pieces with a number of people involved…
And recently, I was asked to collaborate with a model to do a shoe shoot.  I’ll post more on that once I get confirmation that everything is going to happen according to plan. :)
Image above is Tim Skold from a recent shoot we did for an exclusive interview at Auxiliary magazine ( www.auxiliarymagazine.com/news/2011/04/aprilmay-2011-issue-out-now ) Check it out for a great insight into his musical successes.

Behind the scenes - Sarah doing Sharon’s Make up for our last look while the rest of us look on…. What you cant see here is that my car is running in the background, because I unthinkingly ran the battery down playing my IPod. (FacePalm) I meant to turn the engine on, but …didn’t. :(

So - we finally found a local with jumper cables (I REALLY need to own a pair, with my history of killing Batteries!!) We tried to jump it. No luck. :( Sarah stuck around and kept trying while the rest of us trekked off to shoot the first look. (I firmly believe that the more un-photography-related stress you are under the better the photos) …at least on long distance location shoots. Came back to a couple now trying to help us…still no luck. They then went in search of another (less dilapidated) set of jumper cables. We were off to shoot look 2! They found a (very) short pair - I need that kind for the Moto!! - and tried those. After a while, we finally got the car started! Wooooo! There was no way I was going to shut it off again, so we left Nancy (our hair stylist, who was a super trouper and was very ill all day long) to watch the cars.

We then set off to shoot the third and final look, in perfect golden hour lighting.

Drove home, dropped the girls at their car, backed up the images and crashed into bed.

The images are fantastic, and I’m very excited about them! Unfortunately, it’ll be a bit before I can share them with you as I’m submitting them to various magazines with the hope of an editorial spread!

After shooting this back in December, we are finally able to release the photos! So excited about these images! The wardrobe is Anna Morph clothing www.AnnaMorph.com and the headbands are one of a kind designs by Glamour Lush www.Glamourlush.com
I had been wanting to do a set loosely based around the prohibition. (That is one of my favorite periods in fashion) I was lucky enough that Erika (of GlamourLush) had a set in her apartment that was ideal for this kind of shoot. Erika not only made the headbands but did the make up and supplied the location, Jeanna Kier did the hair.  This was one of my favorite teams to work with! Such amazing talent.  I hope to be able to do another shoot with Anna Morph again in the very near future!! (possibly in trade for one of her amazing designs! ….we’ll see!) The beautiful models are Heather Carr (Sparrow) and Sarah Hilker.
In addition to the set above, I also got to work with Tim Skold (SKOLD, ohGr, KMFDM, MDFMK, Shotgun Messiah, and Marilyn Manson) shooting the exclusive images for his interview in the magazine. I’ll post the tears soon!  That was a great shoot.  Again, Jeanna did the hair and Erika did the makeup. Skold styled it with assistance from his lovely wife Erin, and a bit of input from all of us on the team.  It was a long but very rewarding day.  One of those days that reminds me (as if I need reminding) just how much I love my job.
So… click the image above to go check out the new issue of Auxiliary Magazine with 2 sets of my photography.  :)  And buy a print copy!  Lots of great photography and information in it!
More photos coming soon!! xoxox

So back in August 2007, I did a shoot with my friend Shyla. Better known as Doll Artist Ugly Shyla.  She had come to LA (Anaheim) from Louisiana to sell her dolls at Bats Day at Disneyland. Her friend Batty couldn’t make it but had a table.  So I agreed to sell Batty’s corsets and my photography at the same time!

In all matters it was a win win situation.  I got to hang out with Shyla, spend the day at Bats Day, and sell my stuff.  Later that night, I got to photograph Shyla and see Android Lust!  What fun!

The above pictures were taken with great patience from Shyla - my lights weren’t firing properly, and we had to keep trying different things to make it work.  In the end, I got some awesome photos that I still love to this day, and she got some to market her amazing dolls. I like the off colors, and the way they came out.  I might not do it the same now, but I’m quite happy with them.  I’m not sure what I’d do differently.  I sometimes miss that dirty edge that I had back then.  Nowadays, I tend to use much cleaner lighting and less artsy shadows!

She hand makes them from start to finish,  and each one is beautiful in a creepy artistic way. They come in a variety of materials, and shapes and sizes.  I have a tiny sleeping beauty doll that she made for me absolutely LOVE it.  I also purchased a bust she made of herself shortly after I first met her.  It still has a place of honor in my curio cabinet! She makes a living as an artist making her fine art dolls and various other arts.

Please take some time to visit her website and look through her dolls and other art pieces.

This weekend has been a busy one for me. Yesterday started out meeting some of my friends for breakfast then heading over to FIDM to check out the Costume display for all of the wardrobe nominated for the Oscars.  Some of them are painfully bad - cast plastic armor for example, but some were astounding.  The Tempest… Very drool worthy!
After that I left them to head to a photo shoot in Griffith Park.  Part two of my shoots with TwoTwentyTwo clothing.  This is a continuation of the Alice inspired wardrobe shoots (the first was the Red Queen) The hair and Make up were strong and beautiful, as was the model, Emily Lazar.
Hair was by Nancy Morales, Make up by Sarah Anstead and wardrobe was designed and styled by Christine of TwoTwentyTwo clothing.
Above is a sneak peek of one of the images from the shoot.  I’ll post more over at flickr as soon as I finish editing them!  I currently have two shoots to retouch, and both have so many great images that I am retouching more than I probably should!  I’m terrible at editing down to a few good ones!  That said, I’m thrilled to be working with so many super talented artists!
Today was spent at the Rosebowl Flea Market selling vintage clothing and jewelry.  I am newly inspired to create more jewelry!  And to list the pieces I have done already on Etsy… Which requires another photoshoot!  Keep your eyes open, I’ll  be posting updates soon!

Yesterday was such a blast!  I got to work with 4 beautiful ladies, AND they were all redheads.  I have a thing for beautiful gingers, being a ginger myself.  ;)
The team was:
Jeanna Kier and Genevieve Garner on hair. (BOTH these ladies rock!!!!)
Maria Barrios and Stephanie Lawrence on Make up - Do I need to repeat myself?  I had never worked with Maria before, but she was an uber pro, fast and very talented!  And Of course, The rest of the girls on the team were there because I’ve worked with them a number of times before and KNEW they would rock.
The models were (pictured above with Hair by Genevieve and MU by Maria) Ninja
Aryiel Harman, Rochelle Red - All first timers in front of my lens.  And Sarah Hilker, another of my favorite ladies to work with.
All in all, the shoot was a blast.  Everyone was timely, worked hard and we blew through 8 looks in 6 hours.  Can I tell you what a shock THAT was? Everyone was speedy and amazing.
The purpose of this shoot was basically that I wanted to update some of my beauty work and focus on both fun and clean makeup. I contacted a bunch of models, and as it turns out, it was all gingers who jumped at the chance to do this shoot. So - I’m going to do this a few more times each time will focus on the color of hair.  Next time I’ll choose all blonds, or maybe brunettes… we’ll see what catches my eye!  I plan to do a few more of these over the next few months.
I also have recently learned some new retouching techniques and figured that it would be the PERFECT reason to do a beauty shoot. I’m quite pleased with how these images tuned out.   Although, I do have to say that after posting them on ModelMayhem.com, the jpgs desaturated horribly.  NOT pleased with that. I’ve read about others encountering this problem before, so I’ll have to do some research and figure out how to correct it.
In the meantime, click the image to see the rest of the set on my flickr account.
(btw - not happy with the placement of my watermark… but it looked worse in other areas of the photo.  grr!!)
